Thank you, Samuel! This was a gift for my father ... he was a turret gunner on this plane.

Artist's Description

This painting entitled "The Homecoming" depicts my father's (Les C. "Burgie" Burgwardt) final flight with his pilot A.L "Stew" Stewman and radioman David L. "Lewie" McClung on July 8, 1945.

My father never saw any "action" as he was badly injured in a training mission. His "Blue Goose" squadron was stationed on the U.S.S. Hoggatt Bay for a period of time during WW2. On this day, it was anchored in Leyte Bay in the Philippines.

The middle plane depicts George H.W. Bush's (41st President of the United States) plane, and the far plane was included to show a third variation in paint schemes used during the war. I am honored to have been able to create this piece for him as a 'thank you' for his service to this fine country.

I live in Western North Carolina. I am a veteran fine artist, graphic designer/illustrator and photographer and spend my spare time fishing, panning for gold, tinkering in the shop, watching NASCAR, doing photography and shooting captivating video. With camera constantly at my side, I'm...
