Description
Spring and Fall months are exceptional times to view the small elk herd that call the Cataloochee Valley home. This bull is in full velvet, as seen on the not fully grown antlers. They shed these in late Winter/early Spring, and re-growth begins immediately and considered some of the fastest-growing, soft tissue in nature.

Thanks! I spent 17 years in the Rocky Mountains and we would have upwards of 500 elk in the "backyard" at times seeing as we had a pond. I got some great shots there. This was taken at Cataloochee and it nice to be able to see them here in WMC.
